Kickstart the Fun with Mini-Jogo!
Mini-Jogo is GSSA’s special soccer program tailored for players in the U4 and U5 age groups. As one of the first programs of its kind in the DFW area, Mini-Jogo was created to introduce preschool-aged children—and their parents—to the game of soccer in a lighthearted, fun-only environment. The focus is not on competition, but rather on encouraging movement, introducing the basics, and creating a love for the sport from the start. All teams are co-ed, and the emphasis is on participation, laughter, and learning through play.
Player Eligibility & Equipment
Who Can Play
Mini-Jogo is open to players in the U4 and U5 age groups. Children are automatically placed into the Mini-Jogo program when they register in these age divisions—no separate sign-up is required.
What You’ll Need
Players must wear shin guards! GSSA official uniforms, including a jersey, shorts, and socks will need to be purchased before game day. Soccer cleats are preferred, but athletic shoes are also acceptable. For safety reasons, jewelry of any kind is strictly prohibited during games.
Staying Game-Ready
Don’t forget to bring a labeled water bottle to each session to keep your child hydrated. Sunscreen, hats, and lawn chairs are also helpful for parents watching from the sidelines.

Season Information
Seasons are typically 8-10 sessions with fall running late August through early November and spring running late February through early May.
Weekly Format & Location
Mini-Jogo is an 8-game season that takes place over approximately 12 weeks, offering young players a fun and consistent introduction to soccer. Each Saturday session is one hour long and is divided into two parts: a 30-minute soccer skills training session followed by a 30-minute scrimmage. During the scrimmage, players compete against another team in four 6-minute quarters, with 2-minute breaks in between each quarter. This structure provides a perfect balance of learning and play, helping children build confidence, coordination, and a love for the game in a supportive, age-appropriate environment.
Common Questions About Mini-Jogo
Each Mini-Jogo session includes a 30-minute soccer skills training period followed by a 30-minute scrimmage against another team. The scrimmage is played in four 6-minute quarters with 2-minute breaks in between. Coaches serve as referees during the game, helping guide play and ensure a positive experience for all. Players can be freely substituted throughout the game to give everyone plenty of time on the field.
Games are played in a 4 vs 4 format with no goal keepers. Teams consist of a maximum of 8 players so everyone gets plenty of game time play. No scores are kept. Parents are encouraged to enthusiastically support their player.
GSSA leaves the ultimate decision to practice up to the coach. However, coaches are encouraged to have a few “get to know you” practices, but then leave the rest of soccer time for Saturdays.
