Become a Referee with GSSA
Grapevine-Southlake Soccer Association is always looking for hardworking, reliable, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team of referees. Whether you’re a teen looking to get involved or an adult interested in giving back to the game, becoming a certified referee is a great way to stay active, develop leadership skills, and earn money while supporting youth soccer.
Player Eligibility & Equipment
To officiate games for GSSA, you must complete the official U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) referee certification process. This two-part process includes both online coursework and an in-person field clinic. The only requirement is you must be 13 years or older. In order to become fully certified as a referee, both of these parts must be completed.
Online Lessons
Sign up through the Official Members Services (OMS) portal
Cost: $80.00 (includes course and certification fees)
Complete 6 modules (approximately 6–7 hours total)
All modules must be completed before advancing to Part 2
In-Person Clinic
Once you complete the entire online lessons, you’ll be able to select an in-person clinic to go to on OMS. You will see the words – ONLINE LESSONS COMPLETED highlighted in green to know that you can select the in-person clinic you wish to attend.
The in-person clinic is 3.5 hours. This is the field session done outdoors.
Lots of important information is given to all attendees – who you will work for, how to get games, where to get uniforms, etc.
Note
Referees earning above the annual IRS threshold will receive a downloadable 1099 form via their GameOfficials.Net account under the “My Payments/1099 Portal” tab for tax filing purposes.
