GSSA Academic Scholarships
John A. Borszich made a lasting impact as a coach and community leader within GSSA. His passion for the game and commitment to youth development live on through this annual scholarship, established by his wife, Lois, and sons, Aaron and Nick.
The scholarship celebrates academic dedication, personal integrity, and service to the soccer community—values John embodied and passed on to generations of players.

Since 1998, the John A. Borszich Scholarship has provided academic support to outstanding members of the GSSA community. This annual award honors the legacy of John A. Borszich, a beloved coach, mentor, and friend of the organization.
Thanks to a generous memorial gift from John’s family, GSSA awards a $1,000 scholarship to one male and one female applicant each year.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Be a Junior, Senior, or current college/trade school student
Plan to attend or currently attend an accredited 2-year, 4-year, trade, or technical school
Have participated in GSSA as a player, coach, referee, or assistant referee
Demonstrate strong academic performance, community involvement, and personal goals
Scholarships are awarded based on:
Academic achievements
Extracurricular activities
Essay responses
Commitment to personal growth and community impact
Applications are available each year after January 1 and must be completed in full to be considered.

Only fully completed and signed applications will be reviewed. The number of scholarships awarded may vary depending on available funds and applicant pool.
2025 Scholarship Recipients
Shreyas Assar – Grapevine High School
9-year player and 5-year referee
Will attend the University of Pittsburgh to study neuroscience
Sanvi Kishinchandani – Carroll Senior High School
3-year player and 5-year referee
Will attend the University of Texas at Austin to study chemical engineering
Both recipients were recognized at GSSA’s Annual General Meeting in May.
