Tournament Rule Changes Policy
Effective Date: April 1, 2018
GENERAL INFORMATION
This policy outlines the exception to normal season rules that will be enforced during any GSSA sanctioned tournaments or Soccerfest.
Exceptions to the regular season rules
U6 will be provided referees to officiate the games.
Tournament Game Rules (U4-U8)
· Format: exhibition game.
· Same rules and substitutions as in regular season.
· Overtime Rule: There will be no overtime in the scenario of a tie game.
Tournament Game Rules (U9 – U12)
· Format: Tournament, Round Robin, Championship Series, or Championship game.
· Same rules and substitutions as in regular season.
· Overtime Rule: There will be no overtime in the scenario of a tie game.
· Penalty Kicks: In the event of a tie game for an elimination game, penalty shots will determine the winner. Each team will take 5 shots each. Only players on the field of play at the end of regulation can take the shots. The team with the most goals after 5 shots each wins. If tied after 5, each team takes 1 shot each until there is a winner.
Tournament Formats
· Tournament format will be determined by the number of participating teams per age group. The formats include:
o Exhibition Game (two teams)
§ One or two games against an opponent selected at random.
o Tournament (four teams).
§ Two Semifinal games, may or may not include a third place game, and a final game.
o Round Robin (three teams)
§ Guaranteed two games.
§ Winner determined by point system.
§ No overtime, no penalty kicks.
o Championship series (two team)
§ Two games. Winner determined by point system.
§ No overtime, no penalty kicks.
o Championship game (two teams).
